2 Old men
I'm sitting on a park bench watching the animals playing around and enjoying the beautiful weather. I was staring off into the distance when a child and an old man walked up to me. The child stopped, "Do you want to feed the squirrels?" "Sure!" I said. The child was amused at how the squirrels were eating and playing. I looked over at the old man now sitting on the bench, "You should come feed the squirrels!" He shook his head. The kid tapped my leg, "He cant walk or move that much. His legs start to hurt really bad." I sat down, the kid ran to play, "Are you okay?" I asked the old man. He shook his head, "I had a doctors appointment about a week ago. They said I would only live one more year. Little Chris just thinks they told me I shouldn't walk that much." I quickly became sad, "Well why spend that year doping around and not having fun? Make the most out of it!" "I would, it's just... I cant get out of this deep depression I have fallen into." I was the same way, "About four years ago, the doctors said I only had a year or two to live. I began watching what I did and started to be healthy. Now, I'm still alive after four years!" He smiled, "Do you really think there is hope for me?" "I think there is hope for every one, especially you. Work for what you want and ask your doctor if there is any medication you could take." I knew I made that mans day, and that's what made mine. "Thanks sir, you're a kind man." I smiled, "So how about we feed these squirrels? They look pretty hungry." We stood up and started walking and Chris ran over here, "Grandpa you're supposed to be taking a break not walking around this much, aren't your knees hurting?!" Chris was so worried for his grandpa. "No Chris, I'm fine." Chris went back to playing, "Do you think I should tell him about the whole me going to die in one year thing?" I curled my lips in, "Either get the doctors to tell him or wait a while. It's your decision, do what feels right." A few weeks later, I saw the grandpa at the park again with Chris. Chris didn't leave his side. "I told him." The old man told me. I looked down, "Chris, there's always that one possibility that the doctors were wrong. That your grandpa will live. Just remember that." He half smiled, "But then again, there's always that possibility that the doctors were right. That he wont live but another year." "Well if he only lives one more year, wouldn't you want him to be happy, and not see you sad?" "Suppose so..." Chris looked up at his grandpa and smiled, "I love you." Chris went to play, "So what's your name? Mine is William." "Clayton." "Well, Clayton, next year on this very date if you're surviving, I want you to meet me at this park. This bench." "Deal." About a year later, he showed up, a big grin on his face.
